Armed and Ready for 2021
As much as we want to forget 2020, at the very forefront of our minds are the challenges that we encountered. The entire world including the United States of America experienced catastrophic difficulties like never before. Events and emotions have been indelibly imprinted in our minds and will more than likely be there forever. Who will ever be able to forget the Pandemic and economic upheaval of 2020?
In Daniel 7:25 it mentions that the Enemy of our soul seeks to weary the saints of God. But as we all can see he is no respecter of persons. He will weary everyone and anyone so much so that at times you will want to give up; if not for the grace of God. Many people are physically, spiritually, emotionally and financially exhausted but in the midst of all the chaos and confusion know that God is still speaking.
I believe that He is saying to us that we need to be armed and ready for 2021. We tend to have this mindset that once the year has come to an end then the next year will be problem free. Of course, we need to be optimistic but the Lord wants us to be prudent and wise so that we will not only be ready for 2021 but we will be positioned to recover what the enemy has stolen.
I know that many lives were lost and unfortunately that cannot be replaced. However, what we can do as people of God is to not let them die in vain but to position ourselves to tell others that they do not have to die without a Savior. In other words, how can we in some way recoup from our losses of 2020?
In 1 Samuel 30 we see where David and his men on returning from battle found their camp at Ziklag burned to the ground. Not only were their possessions taken but their wives and children were also captured by the Amalekites. We all know that the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy according to John 10:10. A lot of us have experienced his cruel blow through the death of a loved one or loved ones, job loss, business loss, freedom restrictions, church closures, you name it.
The men were very weary from fighting battle after battle. They have been with David for well over a decade surviving by whatever means necessary while waiting on God’s timing when he would be crowned as the next king of Israel. As a result of which they would always have to stay one step ahead of King Saul who wanted to kill David. Saul was so jealous of the anointing upon David’s life that he pursued him relentlessly. Do you know that when you are anointed by God for a specific purpose you are targeted by the enemy?
The men were so discouraged like so many of us are today as a result of the ten months of COVID 19 roller coaster ride which entails one loss or disappointment after another. They talked about stoning David, even though it was not his fault. I am sure he was just as exhausted or even more due to the pressure of being a leader who was constantly on the run.
If we have not already done so, here is a principle that I suggest we all incorporate into our lives as we enter 2021. In verses 7 – 8 it states “And David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech’s son, I pray thee, bring me here the ephod. And Abiathar brought the ephod to David. And David inquired at the LORD, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? Shall I overtake then? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them and without fail recover all.”
We need to be so connected to God that when pressure comes from any angle and sometimes it is going to come from the people closest to us, that we have the resolve to call upon God and trust Him for an answer. If God says it, it must surely come to pass. Do not let the enemy deceive you into thinking that because all this chaos and death is taking place around us that God is not All Powerful. We need to learn to encourage ourselves in the LORD. For 2021 we need to ask God for the grace to walk in the spirit.
David knew how to walk in the spirit. That could have been a very bloody altercation between him and his men due to the fact that they were exhausted and discouraged. Guess who was right in the middle? Satan of course. Imagine that David’s destiny and purpose in God would have been cut off if the men had killed him. This is the lineage through which Jesus Christ would come so that you and I could have salvation through His crucifixion and resurrection.
Be careful that we do not allow flesh, exhaustion and discouragement to block our blessing or our purpose in God. Many of us are at our wits end due to the tests and trials that have come upon us like a flood all throughout this year. I believe the Lord wants us to be ahead of the Enemy’s tactics by being so tightly and rightly connected to Him and His word that we can hear clear direction and know which path to take for the New Year.
Hope deferred makes the heart sick but when the desire cometh it is the tree of life - Proverbs 13:12. Therefore, if we learn to dig into the word of God and call upon Him every day we will have the stamina to weather every storm that we might have to encounter.
Proverbs 6: 30 – 31 says that “Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry. But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house. We the people of God have a spiritual legal right to demand in the mighty Name of Jesus anything that we know that the Enemy has stolen from us. For 2021 we need to go the Recovery Department and claim all that was stolen in 2020 and even before.
A word of caution is that you cannot go into the Enemy’s territory without understanding your authority and legal right. You need to understand the rules of engagement in the spiritual realm. As a child of God, Jesus Christ gave you that authority when He died for you on the Cross and rose with all authority in Him. That authority was passed unto you when you decided to make Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior. Know your legal right by going into the scriptures and finding the principles and strategies that God has given us concerning how to defeat the enemy.
In Ephesians chapter 6:10 Paul says “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might.” We all know that he continued to tell us that we should put on the whole armor of God that we may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. However, I encourage you to read Ephesians chapters 1 to 6:9 and find the principles that will enable us to be able to stand. If we do not adhere to the principles in these previous chapters, that is, Ephesians 1 – 6:9 we will not be able to effectively defeat the enemy. Why? Because he is a master strategist and he knows the rules very well.
According to the previous chapters in Ephesians we need to make sure that we know that we are seated in heavenly places, that we live in unity one with another, that we do not partake in filthy conversations. Also that we put away anger, wrath, bitterness and speak truth to our neighbors. Indulging in sexual immorality will leave us vulnerable to the attacks of the Enemy. We must exhibit godly behaviors toward our spouse. Children should obey their parents and fathers should not provoke their children to wrath.
This should be our daily lifestyle which will ensure that when we put on the armor to do spiritual warfare, the enemy has no legal right to destroy our lives. So I encourage you today to use what God has given you. We are already equipped with God’s weapon for the Enemy’s mass destruction for 2021.
Have a blessed, prosperous and safe New Year!
