Gratitude Is The Gateway To True Worship
When someone has been good to you or has given you a gift it is good manners to show appreciation to the individual. You want the person to know that you are appreciative and so you express it to them. It is imperative that you make a conscious effort, if you are not in the habit of doing so, to always be thankful for the big as well as the small things. In Luke chapter 17 Jesus healed ten lepers. The Bible said they were healed as they went. It also noted that only one came back to say thank you. Jesus asked, were not there ten where are the nine? Principle: Do not take others for granted or God’s goodness for that matter.
As a believer in Jesus Christ, when was the last time you sat, and really considered how God has delivered you from the Enemy? Or how God has healed you? Or how He provides for you over and over again. Have you given much thought to the great redemption plan that rescued you from the pit of hell? Salvation is not to be taken lightly. If you have never asked Jesus Christ into your heart now is the time to ask him to forgive you of your sins and invite Him in (Romans 10: 9 – 11). Salvation is a big deal because the Enemy worked and is still working overtime to destroy the souls of men. He understands what is at stake, so by whatever means necessary he will try to destroy you. Why do you think there is so much chaos, darkness, fear, violent murders, desperation and confusion upon the land? Why do you think corona virus came about? This was a mass exodus of unsaved souls as many did not know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
In Mark 14: 3 – 9 there is an account of a woman who entered a home where Jesus was a dinner guest. She could never have been invited because in their book she was labeled as a “sinner”. She was insignificant in the eyes of the host and the guests gathered at this dinner party – except for Jesus, of course. Well, this woman with the alabaster box was so grateful for her deliverance that she could not care less what anybody thought about her. She was living in torment, heading for utter darkness and Jesus, the Light, delivered her.
Now, how do you remain silent after such a deliverance? How do you remain silent when you think of your life before and after you had an encounter with Jesus Christ? The Bible said she entered. She did not ask any question. She did not seek permission from anyone in order to show her gratitude to Jesus. She broke all religious protocol. She simply came in with her alabaster box which contained an ointment of spikenard. The Bible said it was very precious and also very expensive. She was giving Jesus Christ the best she had.
You cannot out give God in your sacrifice of praise in any form whatsoever; either with your life or your financial resources. She spared no expense in her sacrificial worship. She was not struggling in her emotions as to whether or not to love on Jesus with this expensive ointment. When you are grateful for what God has delivered you from then your worship becomes unapologetic. I Samuel 15: 22 …Obedience is better than sacrifice.
This woman saw her opportunity to worship her LORD and Savior and she was not going to be denied. The Bible said that she broke the box. If there are some things that are holding you hostage and is robbing you of your worship to the LORD it is time to break free. I believe that the Holy Spirit wants God’s people to shop apologizing for worshipping the King of kings and the Lord of lords. Stop being apologetic for your deliverance. He wants you to give Him all the adoration and praise that will come out of your inner being.
When the world is gyrating and worshiping the God of this age they are unapologetic. They are not criticized and everybody seems happy. So why are the people of God afraid to worship and praise the God who delivered them from the pit of hell? Why are the people of God timid about giving honor to the One who is their Provider? Why are the people of God afraid to glorify the Great Physician, their Healer after a miraculous healing? It is time to break the bands of fear. It is time to break the bands of people pleasing. It is time to break the bands of intimidation and give the Lord all that is due to Him. As a matter of fact, it is to your own detriment when you do not worship as you should. Remember that your praise is also your weapon in spiritual warfare.
When you are in intense worship, your whole being and thought should totally be focused on the Lord. The woman broke the spirit of shame that enshrouded her life. She broke off condemnation because she met true love. She broke off the false labels and the spirit of guilt because for the first time she felt accepted. She understood that she was the beloved of the Lord. What a revelation! This woman continued to anoint Jesus’s head and worshiped her Lord with tears and kisses. Can you continue to worship God even in the midst of criticism? You might have heard comments like, it doesn’t take all of that to worship. Why do you have to be carrying on like that? Why are you so loud? They are not loud when they are worshiping darkness but all of a sudden they are advocates for Jesus’s hearing.
In one of the German Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke’s YouTube videos he told the story of a man who said to him that he was too loud. He said he thought about his response for a moment, allowing the Holy Spirit to give him the right answer. Then he said to the man “dignity is not a fruit of the spirit.” I thought that was so good. To whom much is given much is required. How grateful are you for what God has done in your life? Are you ready to take off the restraints and worship God with every fiber of your being? Great!
Blessings!
